Aldi Distribution Centre – Large-Scale AHU Design and Installation

Project Overview

CLP Air Group was approached by a client regarding a large-scale project for a new distribution centre for supermarket giant Aldi. Given the project’s long-term nature, meticulous planning and design were required. Over a six-month period, various design considerations and concepts were evaluated and finalised for approval. Due to the large space and high personnel deployment, significant air volumes were necessary to meet ventilation, air change rates, and temperature regulation requirements.

Meeting the Challenge

Our team worked closely with the client to design a system that would provide optimal airflow and energy efficiency while accommodating the distribution centre’s scale and layout. The AHUs had to be designed in specialist-sized modules to facilitate installation in restricted areas, ensuring a seamless on-site assembly.

Innovative Design and Installation

• Designed and supplied three AHUs, with the largest providing an impressive 10.0m³/s airflow capacity.
• Integrated high-efficiency counterflow heat exchangers, EC direct-driven fan walls, and LPHW/chilled water cooling coils for optimal performance.
• Delivered fully pre-wired packaged controls, streamlining installation and reducing setup time.
• Constructed the AHUs in specialist-sized modules, allowing efficient on-site assembly to accommodate the centre’s space restrictions.
• Following site positioning by the client, our team attended the site to install the AHUs and connect all control wiring.
• Once all services were connected by the contractor, our team commissioned the AHU controls and provided a full client demonstration on system operation and energy control.

Results

The newly installed AHUs now provide the Aldi distribution centre with efficient, high-volume air handling, ensuring optimal ventilation and temperature control for the extensive facility. The modular design approach allowed for seamless integration despite spatial constraints, meeting the client’s long-term operational and energy efficiency goals.
